It was the first relatively warm night of the year, so we found other people out picking through the trash wherever we went, somewhat reducing an already light haul. The trash went out a bit later than usual. There was a lot of boxed-up broken glass, and I wondered if that was why. But a number of good things were found, and as usual most other people out there were pretty picky about what they were looking for. Among the more unusual things I didn’t keep for myself was a perfectly good boning knife. The staff of that store had stayed late to do a deep-cleaning and as a result they had filled trash bags erratically, and someone probably just lost the knife. I let my friend keep a package of gyoza on the condition that he invite me over to share them later. We found a two-quart box of chocolate soy milk, but upon opening it to share, found that it had gone terribly bad in a way that I was not aware a sealed self-stable package of soy milk could. Here’s what I got:

  • A whole butterflied lemon rosemary marinated chicken
  • Bacon
  • Soy chorizo
  • Frozen mozzarella sticks
  • Medium plain Greek yogurt
  • Small vanilla coconut yogurt
  • Onion and chive cream cheese
  • 2 vine tomatoes
  • An onion
  • Small potatoes
  • Seaweed snacks
  • Canned artichoke hearts
  • Boxed adobo chicken salad and Greek salad
  • Orzo
  • Vegetable radiatore
  • Vegetable fried rice
  • Crispbread
  • Rice cakes
  • 2 pieces of cornbread
  • Maple-agave syrup blend
  • Cookie butter
  • 3 small puddings (pumpkin, mint chocolate chip, and strawberry lemon)
  • Small marble cake loaf
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Chocolate covered dried fruit
  • A whole gluten-free almond king cake
  • Hand cream
